Interior L.E.D. Hook Up
Not sure if it is worth a write-up in the “how to” section. To change a 12v power port to a cigarette lighter involves buying a lighter housing right in picture that has to be swapped out for the power port housing. If you look inside the housing you will see a very small black plastic tab in the middle of the metal tube. Use the right angle pick to hook the housing inside and use the screwdriver to press the tab as you gently pull with the pick. There is a 2nd tab on top that need to be pressed as well. The housing will slide out. Unhook the connection on the rear and swap the power port with the new cigarette housing.
I hook up a portable heater and my cigarette lighter fuse blow out. Why?
Posted on September 5, Fellow truck camper and volt sharp shooter, John Wells, returns with a step-by-step article on installing a volt outlet. Get your multi-meters ready. An Endless Breeze fan is a very efficient solution for directing fresh air to a truck camper dinette or cabover during hot weather.
Convert your vehicle cigarette lighter charger to a wall charger with this handy device by AccessoryWizard. Works with cigarette lighter chargers only and with standard U.S. wall outlets.
Chrome plate-type receptacle installed in dinette Example wiring of receptacle Scotchlock wiring splicer Now you may not need to charge all of your devices at one time and you could by a 2 or 3-into-1 receptacle adapter to plug in to the lone volt receptacle. But what if the kids want to watch a movie on the portable DVD player in their bunk bed? What if you want to plug in a low-power inverter for small AC appliances?
What if you DO want to charge multiple things at one time? Then you need another or more volt receptacle. Modding your RV with a new volt receptacle is pretty easy. You will need the following: Locating the receptacle near a volt light will make it easy to tap in to the power going to the light. Attach the red wire to the center post of the receptacle using a ring connector.
Using a Scotchlock splicer, attach the red wire to the fuse holder, attach the other end of the fuse holder to the white wire going to the light using another Scotchlock.
Comments Most electrical golf cart accessories are 12V, meaning that they run off of 12 volts. There are several ways to hook up your 12V battery accessories, some of which are better than others. The cheapest and easiest way to power your 12V accessories is to connect them to two 6V batteries. This is not the most efficient method because it can lead to an imbalance in the battery pack, therefore reducing the over-all power of your golf cart.
If you really plan on adding some additional electrical golf cart accessories then you will definitely want to consider your other options:
can i split off another circuit from fuse box to run power to cigarette lighter? Ask Question. That wire will be your hot or load side to the power outlet. By Kerry Burton The reasons for a cigarette accessory outlet are many. You may need to recharge your cell phone, perhaps hook up a radar detector for the day, maybe play a CD or radio while having a picnic somewhere. Regardless of the reasons this mod can be quite handy and is easy to do. There must be dozens of ways to rig up a cigarette lighter adaptor on your bike.
These pictures show my first attempt. There are a few things I wish I had done differently, but on the whole I’m satisfied. The photos as you see them here are reduced to a x pixel format. The larger picture you see when you click on one of these is in a x pixel format. All of the photos were originally taken in an even larger format x pixels. I reduced them to conserve space and download time, even though the clarity may have suffered because of it.
The obvious thing to get first is the cigarette lighter adaptor you want to use.
If the condo is new, or was previously lived in but the the owner didn’t use the outlet you want activated, that particular cable feeding the outlet you want to use was never connected. It shouldn’t be any problem to have it connected by someone that understands what needs to be done. In all likelihood the cable does not have a connector on its end, but is hanging nearby the termination block likely with other unused cables feeding more outlets in your condo.
Depending on the construction style of your condo building the location of the termination block and the cable you need to have connected could be in the attic of your building. Try to find out who prewired your building with the cabling For your information, the reason why the installer doesn’t hook-up all the cables at the terminal block for your entire condo is because each individual cable that is hooked-up reduces the signal strength a little, so they would rather the owner choose which outlets they want to activate and not hook-up to the terminal block any cables that are not going to be used.

It does three things: Cuts Wires Strips the rubber cover off the end so you can get into the bare wire underneath. The pictures below will make that start to come clear. All the 12 volt appliances you buy need to be connected to your battery to draw power. Fortunately many come with cigarette lighter plugs, so that is easy. But many others just come with two raw wires coming out of them, one positive and one negative.
To do that we are going to use connectors that we strip and crimp onto the bare wires coming out of the appliance. The two connectors we will use most are butt and ring connectors. We will use a butt connector to connect two bare wires-usually to make them long, like an extension cord.

How to Wire Accessories to Car Fuse Panels by Jeff Grundy Before the digital revolution, the only time you may have considered connecting a device to the fuse panel in your car was if you were installing a new stereo system. However, with the introduction of mobile MP3 players, netbook computers and multitudes of new car accessories, there are many ways you might benefit from wiring external devices to the fuse panel rather than using bulky and cumbersome cigarette lighter adapters.
Free up cigarette lighter adapters for other devices and get rid of a lot of the clutter by wiring devices you use most directly to the fuse panel underneath the dashboard. Safety First While car batteries typically only produce 12 volts of current, they produce high amperage levels that could cause quite a jolt if you’re not careful.
Therefore, before you do anything else, open the hood and disconnect the negative black terminal from the battery. This precaution will ensure you do not shock yourself while installing the new wiring and prevent possible short damage to your fuse panel or accessory.

An outdoor electrical outlet is a convenient feature to have in your home. It makes entertaining, yard work, and lighting up the outdoors much easier. Step 1 — Disassemble the Interior Outlet Decide where you want the electrical outlet to be located on the outside wall of the house. Look inside the house to see where the closest receptacle is. It is easiest to locate the new outlet directly on the other side of the wall from an existing interior outlet.
Turn off the power to the interior outlet. Unscrew the cover of the outlet and remove it. Then, unscrew the two screws on the receptacle. Take the receptacle out of the box and disconnect all of the wires. To remove the electrical box from the wall, remove the mounting screws. Pull the box out and pull it off to the side. Push through a knockout space in the box for the new wiring.

Many of us do padlock the trailer hitch lever down so it can not be disconnected from the ball. This can also be a good thing to get used to doing as it is a reminder to not forget to snap the lever down onto the ball. But what about securing the hitch extension into the bumper’s receiver? If you just use the original spring snap clip to hold the pin in place, it is rather easy to pull the pin, slide the trailer rearward enough to get the extension out of the receiver and then transfer the extension to a waiting vehicle that has the same commonly used receiver.
To prevent this, I have drilled my extension pin out enough to also accept a padlock bail, as shown in the photo below on the right.
I run two outlet circuits on my machines, but my electrical system is overkill for most. One circuit and set of plugs (two 12V socket and several RCA/Phono jacks) power up when the machine is running.
A GFCI has a built-in circuit breaker that interrupts the flow of electricity the instant it senses a ground fault or current leak. But a GFCI won’t work unless it’s properly connected. If your electrical system has not been upgraded for 20 years or more, you probably need to install GFCIs. First, turn off the power to the circuit you’ll be working on. Take off the cover plate and unscrew the outlet from the box. Disconnect the wires and remove the old outlet.
At the back of the GFCI are screw terminals marked “load” and “line. Attach both the black and white wires to the screw terminals on the line side. Fasten the black wire to the dark-colored screw and the white wire to the light-colored screw. Again, make sure that both wires are on the “line” side. Wrap the bare copper wire around the grounding screw and tighten it.
Neatly tuck the wires into the box, screw the outlet in place and replace the cover plate. Finally, check the GFCI by pressing the “test” power off and “reset” power on buttons. After turning off the electricity to the kitchen at the main service panel, remove the cover plate and unscrew the duplex outlet from the existing cable inside the box.

Can you plug a v lamp into a v outlet? Only if you have a transformer or something of the sort to step down the voltage. Otherwise, all you’ll do is burn out whatever you’re trying to plug in If you have a 4 wire V hot tub with a built in GFCI can a 3-prong electrical outlet used for a dryer be changed to 4-prong so you can hook it up? If you get any detailed “how to do it” answer here, you might attempt to do something you shouldn’t be doing, and that may cost someone a shock, a home fire, or their life.
A dryer outlet is only safe to use for one purpo…se:
The cigarette lighter power plug is fuse protected by a 5 amp fuse, however the plug is rated to 15 Amps. The coaxial plug is wired inside positive. The cigarette lighter power plug has dual-side ground contacts for a solid mechanical and electrical connection.
Home Depot had a 14 gauge Appliance Cord. It depends on the length of the extension cord. I wouldn’t have any issue using a 6′ gauge extension. I sure wouldn’t use a ‘ gauge extension. Beyond that you start to ask how close you apartment is to the transformer, how far the panel is from the washer, etc. If you wanted a wild swag, I’d say you’d be pretty safe up to around 20′ on a gauge. At 50’, I’d look at a gauge extension but that’s being a bit conservative and assuming this is a newish apartment.
Since this is an electrical comment with a ‘take a swag’ answer, I’ll comment more. So he can do the calculation using the max current draw of the actual washing machine and the resistance of wire found in NEC Chapter 9, Table 8. Even this calculation is slightly shaded though because there is extra resistance at the plugs and OP should be adding the wire in the wall and to the service main into the calculation or at least measuring the existing voltage drop at the outlet he intends for service.
